Product | Brass

Product

One place for the records HMRC now expects you to keep.

Brass is not Xero. It does not do payroll, VAT returns, stock, or five-user practices. It keeps a sole trader's books, nags you on the four dates, and hands over a pack.

Record

Jobs in, spend in

Add income when you get paid. Snap a receipt onto the line. Log mileage at HMRC simplified rates. Brass tries to fill the date, amount and shop from a photo, then you check it. Categories match what HMRC asks for on a quarterly update.

Remind

Four emails a year that matter

Before 5 July, 5 October, 5 January and 5 April you get a running total and a list of what is still missing. That is the product, as much as the ledger.

Export

A pack, not a portal

PDF summary and CSV of every line, or a read-only link they open without an account. Email it. We are not asking them to learn another login.

What Brass is not

  • Not a full accounting suite. No payroll, VAT returns, or limited company accounts.
  • Not a replacement for your accountant. You keep the books. They file.
  • Not for property portfolios. Brass is for people who do a job.
  • Not a bank. Snap a receipt onto the line, import a CSV, or type it. Live bank feeds can come later.

Categories

HMRC-style, not a 200-line chart of accounts

You pick from the headings a sole trader already sees on a quarterly update. You are not inventing your own system and translating it later.

This is a record-keeping layout, not tax advice. If you are unsure what is allowable, ask your accountant.

The reminder

Four emails. That is the product, as much as the ledger.

A few days before each date: running income, running expenses, anything still blank, and a button to export. No weekly digest. No marketing drip.
